Back To All Events

Date: Saturday, February 20, 2010

Time: 7:00 am - 10:00 am

The Mizuno Lightning Strike Run race is a 30km event starting in the Brindabella Mountain Range and running back to the Event Hub at SFP. The course takes in some of the stunning features of the surrounding Canberra region and is designed to commemorate the 2003 Canberra Bush fires by starting close to the original lightning strike which ignited the fires.

The event will provide a perfect opportunity for individuals who are competing in the Six Foot Track marathon and looking to round out there preparation. However, please be aware this event is not for the novice runner. We would not encourage individuals to enter this event unless they have recently completed a half marathon in under 2 hours, or a marathon in under 4 hours.

Drink Stations and support will be provided at the 8.8km (Vanity's Crossing), 13.5km (Paddy’s River Road), 19.6km (Entry into Windslade) and 25km (Stromlo Pine Forest) points. The 30km event will start at 7am. In the case of a total fire ban, the famous Stromlo '18 mile' course will be used for this event.

A bus service will be available to take competitors to the start of the event at a cost of $5.

Prizes will be awarded for performances based on an age, sex handicapped format. Prizes and the prestigious lightning strike trophies will also be awarded to the fastest times for male and female athletes. Competitors vying for the Percy Cerutty Award must compete in this event.

The 30km event will have a net drop of approximately 160m and will contain approximately 430m of climbing and 590m of descending.
