About Canberra

Canberra is thought to be an Aboriginal name meaning meeting place from the Aboriginal word Kamberra. European settlers chose Canberra as Australia 's capital city in 1908. In 1912, an international architectural design competition was held to design Canberra 's urban living space. Chicago architect, Sir Walter Burley Griffin won the competition.

Canberra can be used as a base from which to explore local historic towns, the Snowy Mountains and local natural wonders. Leave enough time to linger in the district to experience all it has to offer.
